Faf du Plessis Facts
In the ’80s, his father Francois played rugby for the “Northern Transvaal” for their center position.
Du Plessis, AB de Villiers, Heino Kuhn, and Jacques Rudolph studied at the same school. Later, he wanted to follow his friend AB de Villiers into joining university but back out on the very same day that he had gone to fill in the registration form due to the long queue.
In 2010, he was featured in a music video titled Maak Jou Drome Waar, which was a collab between AB de Villiers and singer Ampie du Preez.
Faf’s sister Rhemi is married to Hardus Viljoen.
Du Plessis has stirred quite the controversy in the past and has been found guilty for ball-tampering twice, the first of which he pleaded guilty after being caught rubbing the ball on the zip of his trouser during “The Oval Test Match” against Pakistan in 2013.
He is recognized as the first player to have ever scored a century as a captain in an innings during a day/night Test.
In 2018, he became the first South African player to have scored centuries in all international formats.
After his best friend and former captain, AB de Villiers stepped down from his position as the captain due to surgery, Du Plessis took over the captaincy of all three formats on August 24, 2017.
During the Cricket South Africa’s annual award ceremony, he was titled the “Men’s Cricketer of the Year” in August 2019.

Mihlali Ndamase Facts
She grew up in Kokstad, KwaZulu-Natal Province, South Africa.
Mihlali was raised by her mom, aunt, and grandmother, who were all middle-class.
She had a chance to pursue modeling at the age of 14. As she aged, Mihlali realized it just wasn’t for her.
Mihlali started reading beauty blogs around the age of 15, which motivated her to start a YouTube channel.
She is someone that’s terrible at pretending and chooses to distance herself from people rather than to be dishonest around them.
She is socially awkward and attention makes her panic, which sometimes confuses fans who want to greet her.
Some people that met her in a formal environment assumed she was intimidating and “a bit b*tchy.” Mihlali stated that the assumption was wrong and possibly based on her desire to be taken seriously.
Mihlali is someone that falls in love hard and dedicates everything she can to the person she is serious about.
She has a mild form of OCD and has to keep her house neatly organized to feel at peace.
One of the things that piss her off the most is when people assume she’s dating someone for his wealth so she doesn’t have to work.
Mihlali has a tattoo of a semicolon behind her right ear in honor of her dad, who took his own life in 2018.
Her ideal 1st date has to be at dinner. She would leave adventurous things for a later time.
A fashion stylist Tebogo Ramokgadi accused her of wearing a fake Chanel bag in October 2019, which prompted her to show a certificate of authenticity.

Zozibini Tunzi Facts
She grew up in a family whose members have strong academic backgrounds.
She spent her childhood years in the village of Sidwadweni.
As her answer to the final round’s question, “What is the most important thing we should teach young girls today?”, during Miss Universe 2019, Zozibini Tunzi replied, “I think the most important thing we should be teaching young girls today is leadership. It’s something that has been lacking in young girls and women for a very long time, not because we don’t want to but because of what society has labeled women to be. I think we are the most powerful beings in the world and that we should be given every opportunity and that is what we should be teaching these young girls, to take up space, nothing is as important as taking up space in society and cementing yourself, thank you.”
She became the 3rd South African woman to be crowned as Miss Universe.
Her winning the Miss Universe 2019 pageant became all the more impactful as 2019 became the 1st year in the history when all 4 major United States-based pageants, Miss Universe 2019, Miss America 2019, Miss Teen USA 2019, and Miss USA 2019, were won by black women, namely, Zozibini Tunzi, Nia Franklin, Kaliegh Garris, and Cheslie Kryst, respectively.

Chris Morris Facts
He was a late bloomer by cricketing standards and made his first-class debut in South African cricket only at the age of 22.
Chris first came to widespread notice with a stellar show in the 2012 season of the domestic league in South Africa. He had bagged 21 wickets in just 12 games and his strike-rate with the bat was around a scarcely believable 200.
He also ended up as the top wicket-taker in the 2015 edition of the Ram Slam T20 domestic tournament in South Africa.
Chris was one of the most expensive overseas players at the auctions for the 2013 season of IPL. The Chennai Super Kings franchise bought him for USD 625k which was about 31 times more than his auction base price of USD 20k. He stated in an interview that he had utilized his IPL fortune to pay off his parents’ mortgage and buy a new home hor him and his wife.
3 years later, he was bought by the Delhi Daredevils franchise for a sum of USD 1 million.
In an otherwise dismal South African campaign at the 2019 World Cup, Chris was a bright spot as he captured 13 wickets in 8 games and finished as the team’s leading wicket-taker, ahead of other frontline bowlers such as Kagiso Rabada. Interestingly, Chris was not even picked in the original squad of 15 by the South African selectors. He only played the World Cup as a replacement player after pace bowler Anrich Nortje was injured.
In late 2015 and early 2016, there were rumors that he was going to retire from the game. Chris, however, clarified in an interview that he was misquoted by a publication on the issue. In the same interview, he also talked about how his smile during matches has been misinterpreted as a lack of seriousness. He explained that smiling was just a mechanism for him to deal with the pressure of the game.
Kagiso Rabada is a South African cricketer and TV personality, best known as an international cricketer who started playing for the South Africa National Team in November 2014. In 2016, he won the “Cricketer of the Year” prize at the Cricket South Africa’s (CSA) annual dinner. The award was followed by 5 others and he became the 1st cricketer to win 6 awards at a single CSA dinner. In June 2018, Kagiso won 6 awards at the same annual event again.

Kagiso Rabada Facts
His first name translates to “peace.”
Kagiso acknowledges the fact that unlike one of his best friends, cricketer Lungi Ngidi, he was privileged and didn’t grow up in poverty.
Kagiso fell in love with sports as soon as he enrolled in primary school. He initially played rugby.
As a kid, he used to run barefoot in the townships outside Johannesburg, which he partially credits for his incredible stamina.
He regularly bowls in the 140 to 150 kilometers per hour range.
Despite being one of the top bowlers, Kagiso admits that he loves McDonald’s food and drinks espresso with a lot of sugar. He also doesn’t want to stop going out to music festivals and having a few beers on occasions.
After he competed in the 2014 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup for South Africa, Kagiso was dubbed “the fastest and most feared bowler in the competition.”
After 2016 World T20 in India ended, everyone expected him to be sold at an IPL auction. Instead, he decided to sign a contract with Kent, a South African cricket team. It wasn’t until February 2017 that he signed with Delhi Daredevils in the IPL for INR 50 million or around $701k.
In January 2018, Kagiso topped both ICC ODI bowler and ICC Test bowler rankings, making him one of the youngest cricketers to do so.
In August 2018, the annual reference book titled Wisden, also known as “the Bible of Cricket” named Kagiso the best young player in the world.
At the age of 23 years and 50 days, Kagiso was named the youngest bowler to take 150 wickets in Tests.
When asked about his secret, Kagiso stated that it wasn’t just his skill that made him a fast bowler. He credits his success to aggression that helps him bowl faster for longer, which was naturally present in him from a young age. Furthermore, Kagiso stated that this intensity also made batsmen uncomfortable to stand up to him.
Kagiso read the book The Art of War by Sun Tzu in late 2019, which influenced him to find balance and maturity in life.
As of late December 2019, he broke the code of conduct 5 times and received 2 suspensions by the International Cricket Council.

Lungi Ngidi Facts
He got interested in hockey, soccer, rugby, swimming, and cricket as early as primary school.
When he was younger, his dad never understood where Lungi disappeared every Saturday. One day, he followed him and found out he was watching children play cricket at a field in front of his house.
Growing up, Lungi was always extremely focused. He would tell his mom: “I don’t want you to cry mom, you are still going to be rich. I want you to sit down and enjoy your life.”
At college, he initially played rugby. When he met and was coached by Neil Johnson, a former Zimbabwe all-rounder cricketer, he stopped to focus entirely on cricket.
One of the things that inspired Lungi to pursue rugby initially was the story of the Springboks team that won the 1995 Rugby World Championship.
Lungi became great friends with a fellow cricketer and paceman, Kagiso Rabada. He and Kagiso played together since the early days of school.
At the age of 15, he started playing cricket for the junior national team of South Africa. His parents could not afford cricket kits and batting equipment. For that reason, he decided to become a bowler.
People that knew him described Lungi as someone that doesn’t talk much.
There is a song titled Lungi Dance, released in 2013, sung by Honey Singh. The music video featured actors Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone but had no real connection to him. Hindi fans kept sending it to him and it was even played during Chennai Super Kings games, so it grew on Lungi over time and always made him laugh.
When he was 19 years old, in 2015, Lungi bought his parents a house.
His dad, who passed away in 2018, was his biggest fan. He called him “a special gift from God.”
Lungi never expected to be sold at an IPL auction in 2018 to Chennai Super Kings for INR 50 lakhs or around $70k. He stated that players always put their names hoping for the best but it was the last thing he expected.
In November 2018, he suffered a knee injury that demanded a recovery time of a minimum of 12 weeks due to significant ligament damage.
Lungi has also suffered a side strain, a hip injury, an abdominal injury, and a hamstring strain. In doctor’s opinion, his towering body frame trying to bowl fast was the culprit.
Dale Steyn is an Australian cricketer who is best known for his contribution to the South African cricket team. He is also considered to be one of the best bowlers in the history of cricket. Yolandi Visser Facts
She was abandoned by her parents as a toddler and was adopted by a local Christian minister and his wife. She has never met her biological parents. Yolandi has stated that she had tremendous respect and love for her adoptive parents but she used to find their strict religious rules and conservative ways very oppressive and consequently left home at the age of 16 and moved to Pretoria.
Before joining Die Antwoord in 2008, she had been a part of 2 other music groups – The Constructus Corporation and MaxNormal.TV.
Die Antwoord stands for ‘The Answer’ in the Afrikaans language and is a part of the South-African counterculture movement known as Zef. Yolandi and the band gained international attention after the success of their debut album $O$ (2009) which led to a brief contract with renowned American label Interscope Records before the band founded their own label in 2011 titled Zef Records.
In 2019, Yolandi and her band Die Antwoord were involved in a major controversy when a 2012 video of her and her then-partner Watkin Tudor Jones was made public. The video showed them physically assaulting and shouting homophobic abuse at the openly gay musician Andy Butler.
Yolandi and her band released a video response where they claimed that Andy had harassed them multiple times previously and had followed Yolandi into the women’s toilet with ill intentions. Despite the clarification, Yolandi and her band were dropped from the lineup of several music festivals in the United States.
Yolandi was featured on the front cover of the February 2012 issue of the South African edition of Rolling Stone magazine.
In 2010, American film director David Fincher offered Yolandi the lead role in his adaptation of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011) but she declined as she wished to keep her focus on music. The role eventually fell in the lap of Rooney Mara.

Jacques Kallis Facts
He played for the English cricket squad, Middlesex, in 1997.
Don Bennett, a former Middlesex coach, after only 2 weeks of Jacques’s 6-month contract told his teammates: “That lad has the potential to become one of the best all-rounders the game has seen.”
He shared a close relationship with his dad and considered him his primary influence in life.
When his dad got a terminal cancer diagnosis in 2003, Jacques took a pause from cricket to spend time with him and they only grew closer before his untimely death.
Jacques was sometimes called “impeccable” in the roles of a right-handed batsman and a right-arm fast-medium swing bowler.
Jacques was named the “ICC Test Player of the Year” and “ICC Player of the Year” in 2005.
After a year of great performances in 2007, an annual book, Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack, also known as the “Bible of Cricket” named him “Leading Cricketer in the World” in 2008.
He drove Audi R8 in the past. However, in December 2010, he crashed it into the gate of his neighbor’s house. He was not drunk and was left unscathed but the car was wrecked and had to be taken by a toll truck.
After he started getting annoyed by his hair loss and felt it was impacting his image, Jacques underwent a strand-by-strand hair transplant surgery in March 2013.
After retiring from playing cricket in international cricket in July 2014, Jacques was named batting coach for the South Africa national cricket team.
In October 2015, Jacques was named the head coach of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in IPL (Indian Premier League).
In November 2019, Jacques shaved half of his beard to raise money for a couple of charities dear to his heart.
Morne Morkel is a former South African cricketer who played with distinction, as a genuine pace bowler, in all 3 formats of the game for his country. At the peak of his powers, he was renowned for generating steepling bounce at a rapid pace from an awkward length which used to trouble international batsmen of the highest caliber. Despite regular injury setbacks throughout his career, Morne served South Africa in 86 Tests, 117 ODIs, and 44 T20Is, and captured a combined 544 international wickets. After announcing his international retirement in February 2018, he joined the English county team, Surrey, on a Kolpak contract. He has also represented franchises such as Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Daredevils, and Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL (Indian Premier League).

Morne Morkel Facts
Morne’s first-class debut came at the age of 19 when he played for Easterns (South African domestic team) against the touring West Indies. It was hardly the stuff of dreams though, as he sent down 17 no-balls in a 5-over spell that cost his side 54 runs.
In his 2nd ODI game, for Africa XI against Asia XI, he opened the bowling with his older brother Albie which made them the first pair of brothers to do so in the history of ODI cricket.
During the inaugural World T20 tournament in 2007, which was held in South Africa, he bowled a match-winning spell of 4/17 against New Zealand. In his final over, he clean bowled another batsman but was denied the wicket and a consequent 5-wicket haul due to an incorrect no-ball decision by the umpire. As the T20 format was in its nascent stage at that time, this would have been the first 5-wicket haul ever in a T20 international match, had the umpire made the correct decision.
In 2012, he was named in the ‘ODI XI of the Year’ by both the ICC (International Cricket Council) and ESPN Cricinfo. He was also named in the ‘Team of the Tournament’ by the ICC after the 2015 World Cup, where he was South Africa’s leading wicket-taker.
In the 2012 IPL, Morne picked up 25 wickets for the Delhi Daredevils in 16 games and won the ‘Purple Cap’ award for the feat. He was the first South African to earn that honor. He was also the most successful fast bowler for Kolkata Knight Riders in their 2014 IPL title run, the franchise’s 2nd IPL triumph.

David Miller Facts
David’s father, a former cricketer, always used to impress upon his son the importance of playing multiple sports to stay fit and David used to play cricket, tennis, hockey, and squash in his school days.
He was bought at the 2013 IPL Auctions by Kings XI Punjab for the heavy sum of INR 6 crores and represented them till the 2019 season, playing a key part in the team reaching the final of the 2014 season.
During an IPL game in the 2015 season, a ball hit by him for a six had struck a security official causing him to lose sight in one of his eyes.
In South Africa’s semi-final match against England in the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy, David resurrected his team’s floundering innings with a fighting score of 51 not out and shared a 95-run partnership with Rory Kleinveldt for the 9th wicket, which was the then-record for the highest partnership for the 9th wicket in the tournament’s history.
During a group stage match against Zimbabwe in the 2015 ICC World Cup, he shared an unbeaten partnership of 256 runs for the 5th wicket with JP Duminy, which was not just a World Cup record but also an ODI record at that time for the 5th wicket.
In October 2017, during Bangladesh’s tour of South Africa, he became the 3rd cricketer after Rohit Sharma and Kieron Pollard to play 100 or more ODIs without featuring in a Test Match for his country. During the same series, he scored his maiden hundred in the T20I format which came in just 35 balls and was the fastest hundred scored in a T20I match at that time and the first by a batsman batting at the number 5 position or lower. During that innings, he also became only the 5th South African to reach the milestone of 1,000 T20I runs.
Although he played 63 first-class (domestic 4-day) games in his career, he quit the format in September 2018 as he decided that after a decade-long international career for South Africa, he no longer held the desire to represent his country in a Test Match, a format he never got to play at the international level.
He revealed during an interview that his left foot is bigger than his right foot.
